We spent eight days at San Luis Pass Park in Brazoria County, a small park on the tip of Treasure Island. This 15-acre park had a view of West Galveston or Chocolate Bay from every space or cabin. RV facilities include 69 paved sites with full hookup. Back-in and pull-through sites were available with 30 and 50 amp services. Wi-fi was free and could be accessed everywhere in the park. We also had free cable TV!
If I could not stay here in an RV, I would opt for one of the cabins on the point by the wetlands. We paid $32 per night for premium waterfront spot. I consider this money well spent. We did a lot of sitting around watching brown pelicans fishing and fish jumping out of the water. There were hermit crabs everywhere and you had to watch it or you could step/drive on them. We saw herons, roseate spoonbills and many birds with which I was not familiar.
San Luis Pass Park is where the fisher folk go to catch seriously large fish. It is on an island which juts into San Luis Pass. The pass cuts through Galveston Island and is another could-have-been port planned and destroyed by a hurricane in the past. In the slideshow above, there is an aerial view of the pass. The huge structures that look like blue snakes are cuts through the sand bars (greyish brown mounds). In fact, you must know the area to fish from a boat or carry an oar. Seriously.
The bridge that crosses the pass ($2 toll) is the beginning of the Bluewater Highway, which runs from San Luis Pass to Surfside. There are bird sanctuaries and estuaries along the highway and the air is full of birds and bird song. This is a wonderful part of the coast, one I had not seen in 45 years. What a nice surprise! We were surrounded by various chemical companies on a small strip of land that had been battered and reduced by several hurricanes, but there was a fragile beauty to the entire area.
The next time we go to the coast, we are going to stay at Quintana Park, which is also a Brazoria County Park with RV spaces.
We are planning a trip to the beach today. Not a fun beach trip, but a working trip. Al has to do pest control for a customers beach house, so I’m going along for the ride. Maybe we can find something interesting to do or see.
The saga of the Florida Sand Cranes is continuing. Yesterday morning, the parents were here and doting on the colts again. When they are around, they all stick pretty close together. Sometime during the day, the adults disappeared again, and were gone most of the day. When the parents are gone, the youngsters don’t stay together all the time. This morning, Mom and Dad are back and the family is back together again. Could they be working on another nest somewhere close by? Are they trying to slowly wean the youngsters? I’ve seen lots of Sand Crane families and they seem to stay with the parents until they are a lot older then these two. It’s strange, but at least all appear to be okay.
Al is making a trip to Georgia on Friday. The plan is to clean out the rest of the stuff from the storage building in Georgia, and cut our ties to Georgia! That’s the plan anyway. He’s not exactly sure what is left in that shed, so hopefully he won’t be shocked when he opens the door!

We’re still hoping/planning our escape for June 3rd. We are planning a trip to the east coast towards Flagler Beach, but we found another campground to stay when we get back. It’s about 10 miles north of us. They are pretty expensive in the winter at $800 a month, but have a special $320 summer rate. It’s not a destination type park, but since we have to be in the Tampa area, it’s at least a change of scenery. They have a new section that has double concrete pads so you park on concrete and also have a large concrete patio. It’s certainly not where we want to be……but it’s probably where we will be for July.
So….until we get at a more exciting location, I’ll just have to keep reading with jealousy about all the fun places all our blogger friends are visiting.
The weeks are flying by seems like it was just Wednesday and now its time to post for Sunday.
Besides work getting in my way I spent part of the day Friday using the Solution on the 5th wheel, boy I sure love that stuff.
Got half of it done Friday and the other half Saturday. You don’t realize how big the trailer is till you start cleaning it.
The Solution sure took off all the dirt from winter and it looks like new now.
Saturday while I was cleaning the rig Angela had a garage sale. I’m not much on getting stuff ready for a garage sale (just ask her) anyway she did real good and by noon all most everything she put out was gone.
We don’t have a hole lot left to sell or get rid of. Had a few lookers at the house but still no bites.

Helen Hastings has been the pianist since 2001. One of the early decisions of the church was to give its weekly offerings to the Christian Service Center (CSC) – a practice still continued today.
And even though the congregation meets only six months each year, it is one of the center’s most generous church donors.
Bev Soenksen, the church’s representative on the center’s board of directors, said, “It is a great feeling to know a small group of people who meet only six months a year can make a difference at the CSC. We believe in what the center does, and we consider it a blessing to be a part of their mission.”
